The Responsibility of Pastors, Leaders, Workers, & Elders
I am so glad to share with you about the wonderful work the Lord has called us to do as Pastors and Leaders in His vineyard. As I read thru the Word of the Lord, I see there is advice in the Word for how we need to do the Lord’s work. I have been studying the book of Peter, and the Lord has a word for us as Pastors and Leaders that I would like to share with you saints.
Read Acts 20:17 and 1 Peter 5:1-10.
(1) We need to take heed to ourselves.
The devil is attacking the church and ministry in several areas, so we must take heed to ourselves in the work of the Lord as Leaders. Take heed in your relationship with the Lord. Take heed in your relationship with your family – wife and children. Be loyal faithful to the Lord and His word. Guard against discouragement (Joshua 1:6,7,9), pride (I Peter 5:5-6), love of money (1 Peter 5:2), lust of the flesh (1 Cor. 9:27), and an Independent spirit (1 Peter 5:5).
The people in our assembly will raise no higher than we are as Pastors and Leaders, we are to set a good example to our flock.
(2) Take heed to the flock of God over the which the Holy Ghost has made us to be Overseers.
We need to feed the flock with the Word not just stories. Some feed on the flock, but they don’t feed the flock.
Preach the word. Study the word daily. We need to give ourselves to prayer and ministry of the Word (Acts 6:4).
We need to care for the flock. We need to protect the flock of God. We need to value the flock. We need to lead the flock not drive them. We are the under shepherd.
We need to have a good attitude. We need to submit to one another (1 Peter 5:5-6).
(3) We must pass the torch of gospel truths.
Think four generations: Paul, Timothy, Faithful men, and others also (2 Timothy 2:2). The gospel must be preached and passed on to others so they in turn can pass the word to others.
One of these days, we are going home to be with the Lord when He comes to take the Church. And when we will hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” it will be worth it all (Matt. 25:21).
The Lord bless you saints of God. Let’s continue to work for the Lord and to work with Him as well.
Jesus is coming so soon! Let’s keep busy in His vineyard spreading the word
